Which part of YOU is running the show?

While your Enneagram type tells you what you do, your center tells you how you experience and respond to the world.

Which Part of You is Running the Show?

What is controlling your life?

While your Enneagram type tells you what you do, your center tells you how you experience and respond to the world. Each of us has access to all three centers, but we tend to lead with one and may be controlled by it. Understanding your center can unlock profound insights into your automatic patterns and give YOU control over your reactions.

Discovering Your Center

Try this reflection: When you face a challenging situation, what's your first response?

  • Gut: Do you feel it physically? Does your body tense? Do you want to take immediate action?

  • Heart: Do you immediately consider how this affects your relationships or how you're perceived?

  • Head: Do you start analyzing, planning, or trying to understand what's happening?

The Three Centers Explained

The Gut Center (Types 8, 9, 1)
Core Concern: Autonomy, control, and resistance

The Gut Center, also called the Instinctive or Body Center, processes the world through physical sensations and gut reactions. These types have an immediate, visceral sense of right and wrong, what fits and what doesn't.

How it shows up:

  • Making decisions based on what "feels right" in your body

  • Strong awareness of boundaries and personal space

  • Quick to sense tension or discord in a room

  • Processing through action and doing

Growth invitation: Learning to pause before reacting, integrating heart and head wisdom alongside gut instinct.

The Heart Center (Types 2, 3, 4)
Core Concern: Identity, image, and recognition

The Heart Center, also called the Feeling Center, navigates life through emotions and relationships. These types are constantly tuning into how they're perceived and what others need from them emotionally.

How it shows up:

  • Natural attunement to emotional atmospheres

  • Deep concern with being valued and appreciated

  • Crafting and managing self-presentation

  • Processing through relationships and feelings

Growth invitation: Developing authentic self-worth independent of others' perceptions, balancing emotion with reason and instinct.

The Head Center (Types 5, 6, 7)
Core Concern: Security, safety, and certainty

The Head Center, also called the Thinking Center, approaches the world through analysis, planning, and mental frameworks. These types seek to understand and predict in order to feel secure.

How it shows up:

  • Constant mental activity and strategizing

  • Need to gather information before acting

  • Creating mental maps and contingency plans

  • Processing through thinking and analyzing

Growth invitation: Moving from overthinking into embodied action, trusting the wisdom of heart and gut.
